Description: For this assignment, you will need a copy of the works of Plato, you can find it in many places- books, internet, or your text. In this assignment, you will choose one of the dialogues in this book, and then write a paper in which you join the argument yourself. You must prove you have understood the philosophical discussion in the book by writing in your own feelings on the topic related in your dialogue.
Include a works cited page of where you found your dialogue.
Be warned: Some of Plato’s dialogues are easier to respond to than others. You have the opportunity to choose one that suits you, so pick a dialogue you can work with.
For example, Plato’s Republic has to do with government, and the ‘perfect’ form of government. I want you to put forth your own viewpoint. Does Plato seem correct in his view? Is he wrong? And if you were in the conversation, what would you reply to Plato on the subject?
One point here, to avoid confusion. Plato often writes his discussions as conversations between people. Normally, he uses Socrates, not himself, as the lead figure in the conversation. So technically, it will be (normally) Socrates making statements that you will respond to.
