In this proposal essay, you will identify a problem in some contemporary piece of rhetoric or ongoing campaign. You will then design and advocate a new rhetorical strategy to overcome that problem. Your strategy should be based in the works of rhetorical theory which you will cite and integrate in your essay. Criteria: Identify and explain a problem. Use sources from class readings, your book report, or other research to
support your explanation of the problem. Only one source is required, but if you can define the problem using multiple sources, you will be better able to demonstrate the scope and relevance of the problem. Propose a solution: a strategy that may improve the salience, persuasiveness,
and/or accuracy of communicated arguments. Use sources from class readings, your book report, or other research to demonstrate the potential effectiveness of that strategy. This can include the source that you used to define the problem, but your essay should not be a restatement of a
single source. This is not a book report, so you’ll need to integrate multiple sources and/or use different examples than your primary source. Use at least one example of rhetoric with some shortcoming that could be alleviated through your proposed approach to rhetoric. This can be a single case study that shapes your entire paper, or it can be a series of examples that you add in to clarify problems and rhetorical adaptations that you describe. Sources for sample rhetoric are not required but are highly recommended. This will help you avoid overgeneralization and straw-man arguments.
